Anonymous asked: I'm really sorry this question isn't directly 'asking you' as much as it is asking advice, but here goes: I have the funds for a tail and I know what I want. However, I feel like I'm too fat to properly try 'mermaiding'. I used to be a competitive swimmer when I was younger but had to stop. Haven't been in a pool or in the sea for about seven years even though I've been pining for it, hate my body that much. So: lipo/tummy tuck/diet and then tail, don't get tail or cope with it somehow?
Oh I wanna reach through the screen and hug you! I wish I could tell you something perfect that would make you feel good about your size but I understand the pressure to fit into a certain ‘look’ especially when you’re a mermaid.
You might be interested to know I’ve got a bit of a buddah belly so I had my silicone tail made high enough literally so I could cover it. Im not comfortable having my belly hanging out, it’s a part of me that will never fit into societies expectations so I try and work around it.
I do want to point out that there are lovely plus sized mermaids.
Something you might find helpful is first purchasing or making a fabric tail that you could swim with. Using a monofin is an intense workout, so swimming in a cheaper fabric tail for exercise with a monofin will let you get the mer-stuff down, while losing weight and toning your body. I do believe if I was able to swim more than I normally can in my climate I’d have a different shaped body because that monofin WORKS your abs.
It takes confidence to be a mermaid, not because of any body type, but because you’re really trying to sell that persona. I think getting in shape using a tail would be a great way to help you. I understand what it feels like to a small degree to look back on your “glory days” of good body and strength, but I know you can get it back again!
A silicone tail or a realistic tail is a huge investment and are tricky to alter. So I suggest start with something cheaper and then purchase something full on when you’re feeling confident about your body.
Did you know mermaid Kariel actually runs a fin to fitness clas? ;)
“working out” last december (read: using all my strength to suck my tummy in lol)
