Someone asked me about “breath holds”

my asks have been messing up, and this question has been asked of me, and somehow posted to the wrong ask! Here it is again

I already answered this and worked so hard on it- but it didnt post and I didnt back it up. Argh I hate it when that happens. >:O

This is something I ALWAYS forget to put in my FAQ so I’ll link this answer to it once I do. First off, I can’t really give practical “Advice” over the internet. Learning to hold your breath is DANGEROUS and shouldn’t be done from simply reading online and trying. You can pass out underwater and die. LOL

The first thing I suggest is seeing if your local pool or dive shop gives lessons! The best thing you could do is learn from a professional. The next step, would be talking to your doctor, and seeing if you can get yourself one of these like I did…

it’s your own personal “blow into it and make the ping pong ball float” lung capacity measuring tool! I cant remember the actual name XD anyway, practising with this will help you learn breath control. I have stunted lungs so my capacity will NEVER increase but that doesn’t mean I can’t strengthen my lungs and improve my hold. Hold and capacity are different.

So I learned from local diver/swimmer, practice with that, I also use breathing practice videos for singing as they also focus on the same principals without blacking out.

Breath hold is a neat thing, but I find it’s more a novelty than anything else. it doesnt matter what I do- photos or video- I rarely need to go past 2 minutes, and it’s usually between 30 seconds to a minute. It would be different if I was performing underwater on a daily basis but Im not. So I acquired the skill but I dont have much interest in pushing it past 2.

Hope that helped, and hope this posts!
